A perfect way for an instant style change, or a small step up on the social ladder!
Simply pin to the sleeve of your kirtle and voila! Not only a tad warmer, but also stylish as well.
There is a lot of evidence in the iconography of the era (15th century), with the sleeves pinned onto the sleeveless kirtles or kirtles with short sleeves. They were worn indoors by posh ladies - as well as less posh ones - wealthy middle/upper class ladies who couldn't afford lots of fabric for the whole gown would be able to spend some on posh sleeves. They were also made and gifted to ladies in waiting or sweethearts, as rewards for service or tokens of affection....
