Banyans were basically a domestic garment - something less formal you could wear in the house, garden, and to receive guests in a more relaxed atmosphere, lounging in the boudoir, or having tea with your friends in a rose garden :-)
This particular one was made in a mid 18th century style ( though was popular for a good few decaded) and is quite volminous and ideally designed for a woman - though once you take off the bow, a male veriosn emerges
* light, pastel coloured silks that swish delightfully - 6m of silk went into this one!
* fully reversable if you get bored of one colour
* closure with a hook and bar, bow is lightly attached, easy to change!
