A truly unique gown from the Crinoline period (suitable for 1860-68) consisting of a skirt, jacketed bodice and a petticoat, created for our second book!
This styling, with the skirts hitched up in a variety of ways, showing a decorative petticoat , Balmoral skirts etc was designed especially for a more active lady - these were worn for croquet, walking, hiking, travelling etc.
It was deliberately shorter - but the tabs can be unbuttoned and then the skirt covers the petticoat completely, suitable for a more elegant environment
* high quality medium weight linen for the skirt, the jacket bodice is lined with silk. Breathable and easy to clean and iron!
* A skirt is cartridge pleated to the waistband, and hem decorated with narrow braid. The same braid is used to decorate the jacket
*The petticoat is in cotton, with a striped box pleated flounce in cotton/linen, bound with cotton binding, decorated with a velvet ribbon. The tabs are in matching fabric, piped with cotton.
A matching hat is included
*The skirt closes at 30" (78cm) with a hook and bars, easy to regulare the size, can be let out by another inch
The length on the skirt is 46" (117cm)
The bodice closes with hooks and handworked bars, with an overlap. It currently closes at the waist 29" (73.5cm), but if needed another set of bars can be worked closer to the edge, without the overlap.
*The bodice can be worn closed, or open, with a waistcoat. Please note that the waistcoat and blouse are not included ( but contact us if you would like to have a matching waistcoat made to generic measurements please!).
Here it is worn over a blouse and waistcoat - but a chemisette or just a blouse will wor just as well.
* the petticoat closes at the wast 30" (78cm) with a button, but there are also ties if more space is needed. The length is 44" (112) but there is a generous pintuck which can be unmade, gaining more length if needed.
To achieve the typical silhouette, the ensemble should be worn over a corset and a crinoline cage, plus a suitable petticoat or two.
The outfit is shown on a model size 12, loosely laced in.
