late Victorian corset

This type of corset is essential in creating the curvy silhouette, typical of the Victorian era. It creates the small waist/rounded hip profile, and forms the basis for all kinds of Victorian attire across the social strata. All our bodices are cut to fit the silhouette created by a corseted body.

  This is a corset i made for myself several years ago, and unlike the atandard corsets offered in the shop it has a few unusual features.

 It has been very lightly used, there is slight wear on some of the flossing, easy to repair.

 Features:

* made in quality corsetry cotton  herringbone coutil 

* exterior channels in the same coutil fabric,

*  based on a 1880-90  pattern, it is fully boned  -  there  are 21 bones per side, plat steel in front and back, spiral steels everywhere else, in various width, mirroring the originals. ( it is heavy!)

* strong stainless steel  busk

*  decorative outside waist stay, 

* back lacing eyelets with washers

* edges bound in cotton bias tape

* laced with a cotton lace

* decorated with a vintage lace and ribbon 

 * floating lining on the inside,  in cotton lawn 

*extensive flossing in silk thread

Measurements - the corset closes at:

bust - 37" (94cm)

Waist - 26" (66cm)

hip - 39.5" (100cm)

 side length ( armpit edge to waist) 7" (17cm)

Would best suit a size 10-12, with a natural waist of 29-31", chest 38-40", hip 40-42" .

All our Victorian corsets have the standard 2 inches waist reduction built in – the reduction will vary from person to person depending on the lady’s built and body type. Please measure carefully – your actual waist measurement should be at least 3 inches more than the waist measurement of the corset.

 The corset doesn't need to close - a gap at the back is perfectly  normal, allowing a greater range of sizes to be worn.

 The hip should not be too tight - best measure  yours when sitting. A corset with a hip fitting very snuggly when standing, can be uncomfortable to sit in!
