Victorian day walking dress in silk

 A rare occasion to aquire the cover dress from the Victorian Dressmaker volume 1 book!

 This is one of my very first  Victorian dresses made some  12 years ago ( or so) and it has been worn. It was based on a fashion plate from Harper's Bazar, 1883

 The condition is overall very good -  no damage to skirt ot bodice ( a slight weakening on one forearm seams as shown) - and I love it dearly but alas the forearms have become somewhat tight.

 The bodice will benefit from a visit to drycleaners as the collar could do with resfreshing - there is also some discoloration in the armpits, as shown

 Details:

 * A fitted bodice in silk damask from Sudbury Mills, and silk grosgrain, lined throughout with cotton. Metal buttons, light boning inside.

* The sklirts - a plain bustle skirt in the same damask, lined throughout, hem protected by a silk and cotton ruffle and a tape. Seams inside finished by hand.

An apron overskirt in silk grosgrain with a decorative ruffle.

 Undergarments and accessories not inlculded.

 To achieve the typical silhouette,  a bustle cage  plus a flounced petticoat  as well as a corset  need to be worn. (all items can be purchased separately in the shop. 

 Sizing

 bodice closes at :

chest:41 (104cm)

 waist: 30.5"  ( 77cm).

 back width across the shoulder blades - 13.5" (35cm), back  length ( nape to waist ) 15" ( 38cm)

 cuffs 8" (20cm),  sleeve at the elbow = 12.5" (32cm)

Skirts: skirt waistbands -  30" (76).",  Front length 9 waistband to hem) 42" (106cm)

 Bespoke gowns like this ine start from £950 labour plus fabric.
