A rare occasion to aquire the sumptous gown from the Victorian Dressmaker volume 3 book!
A real showstopper, this gown is based on the extanf gaarment currently housed on the Met, and can be used or as a generic afternoon or visiting gown - or a ball gown for a more mature lady.
* A fitted bodice in silk satin, lined throughout with silk with a long plearted peplum and a decoration with antique lace and silk bands.
*The bodice is boned with original Victorian antique bodice stays, and the inside finish is by hand
* The bodice closes with silk covered buttons, buttonholes are made by hand.
*hem decorated with a deep self facing and souble piping.
The skirt is made instunning silk satin, flowly and drapey.
*The foundation is lined with cotton sateen, and the rest is silk sateen lined with silk, the bustle portion is interlind with stiff organdy to provide more oomph.
*the pleated strip is silk satin in ivory, the 3 bold elements are in silk velvet.
*The hem is reinforced and then faced with the satin.
*A dust ruffle in cotton tartalan with cotton lave is pleated to cambric layer and stitched onto the foundatio - this can be removed for washing.
* The draperies are lined with silk and mounted on the same waistband as the foundation skirt
* the ruffles are in folded silk bands, pleated by hand and mounted ontot he skirt.
In total about 9m of the red satin and 8m of the gold one were used
To achieve the typical silhouette, a proper victorian corset and a big bustle cage ( or bustle cage with a bustle improver) need to be worn, combined with a suitable petticoat.

back width across the shoulder blades - 14.5" (37cm), back length ( nape to waist ) 15" ( 38cm)
skirt length in front - 41" ( 104cm), waistband close at 31" (79cm) with hooks and bars, these can be moved, there is in - or out by one inch,
Here worn over a 5'7" ( 170cm) tall, size 12, a bit too big
Would best suit a curvy, corseted UK size 14. please measure yourself carefully over your corset!
