Pinned up sleeves were very popular in the 15th century - you could swap them regularly, providing a different look.

 They were either plain wool - or  fancy fabrics - ofen gifts from the lady or from a man.

This one is made in rare reproduction gold and white damask from Sudbury mills, rare and expensive.
