Tailcoat 1800-1820s

An epitome of sartorial elegance - the tailcoat  from the Regency era  is both sophisticated and streamlined.

This coat would be perfect  for a portrayal of a gentleman  from about 1800-1820s.

 As I am working my way through drafting and improving patterns for the Dandy though the Ages book, I need practice - and the samples are offered for sale - my husband would dearly love to keep them all, but there is only so much room in the closet!

 Made bespoke, with fittings in person, this coat would start from about £800 plus fabric - so if you happen to fit it, this is is an opportunity to get a quality item at a lower price!

Features:

* made in highest quality wool broadcloth, expensive - but worth every penny as the cloth works beautufully and the cut edge doeant fray, hence the coat could be constructed in the period correct way, edge to edge, with no unsightly folding seam allowances under!

* tailored construction, with canvas and modest padding, pad stitched lapels and collar, sporting the fashionable M ' swallow tails' detail

* lined in light glazed cotton on the body and front tails, back tails left unlined as was often seen in the period.

* long sleeves with long cuff with buttons - can be worn over the hand or folded back

*  apart from the main seams and buttonholes, all the construction is done by hand

* buttons in front with an overlap - can be made smaller or bigger by moving the buttons a bit.

* can be worn closed - or open, showcasing  a flashy waistcoat

closed up, with currennt button position, the coat measures:

chest: 50" (125cm),

waist 44" (112cm)

back width 17" (43cm)

Size M/L  - here shown on a chap of 6'2" (187cm) tall, 47"chest -  slightly too big, would need to move the buttons by an inch for a snug fit.
