Georgian stays, size 20

 A sumptous pair of stays, 1760-90s

 Features:

*Made in 2 layers: sturdy cotton duck canvas and stunning silk/ wool damask from Sudbury silk mills,

* bound with cotton bias tape.

* ties at the shoulder straps and at the back with linen tape.

* spiral lacing 

* boned with synthetic whalebone - sturdy and mimicking the qualities of the original whalebone well, centre front boned with flat steel bones for durability .

* eyelets - metal grommets

 * for economy's sake, the inside finish and constriction techniques are modern - do contact us  if you would like bespoke clothing made using original Georgian techniques!  

Options:

*Underarm leather reinforcement - makes for a more comfoprtable wear and preserved the bound edge from fraying. 

*  Horizontal chest boning: an additional horizontal bone, usually 10-12mm wide., is encased oin a casing and stitched tpo the inside of the chest for more support = a frequent feature in period stays.

 Measurements:

 Stays close  at chest - 42.5" (109cm) , waist 36" ( 92cm), side length 8" (20cm). Best suited to natural measurements of chest  44-46, waist 38-42"

 Stays, just like corsets, should be comfortable and not restrict your movement. It will take a few wears for the bones to mould to your body, so please do not lace too tight!
